Bioengineering Group Wins Stevie Award for Women in Business as Fastest Growing Company of 2009

Bioengineering Group, a woman-owned science and engineering consulting and design firm, was honored as the Fastest Growing Company of 2009 at the sixth annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. The Massachusetts-based company was recognized for doubling its staff size and sales in 2008 - achieving a 100% increase in revenue and scaling up from 34 to 72 employees. AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects Award Winner

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its Committee on the Environment selected IFAW's (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) headquarters building as one of the 2009 top ten examples of sustainable architecture and green design. The 2009 COTE Top Ten Green Projects program celebrates projects that are the result of a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems, and technology. They make a positive contribution to their communities, improve comfort for building occupants and reduce environmental impacts through strategies such as reuse of existing structures, connection to transit systems, low-impact and regenerative site development, energy and water conservation, use of sustainable or renewable construction materials, and design that improves indoor air quality. AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Project

The Regional Water Purification Facility and Park (New Haven, CT) designed by Steven Holl Architects with The Bioengineering Group, Inc. as its Sustainability Consultant has been chosen as one of the Top Ten Green projects for 2007 by the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on the Environment (AIA/COTE). Other key team members include CH2M Hill for waterworks engineering and Michael van Valkenburgh for landscape architecture. This award establishes the facility as a peer reviewed example of what can be achieved by the innovative application of the standards and goals for sustainable design and construction. A TRANSITION FROM NIMBY TO AMENITY

Creative sustainable approach to Connecticut public works project wins over neighbors and captures 2007 Visionary Project Award

     Some residents of a comfortable suburban community in Connecticut weren’t pleased when they first heard that their historic neighborhood had been selected as the site of a major public works facility. CT water treatment plant
   The upscale quarter is on land originally purchased in 1798 by famed American inventor Eli Whitney—most noted for his invention of the cotton gin—and is surrounded by grand old homes inhabited for generations by prominent local citizens.
    “When the engineering consultants pointed out that this was a very cost-effective site for a necessary Regional Water Authority (RWA) facility, people just said, ‘Not in my backyard,” said Wendi Goldsmith, president of Bioengineering Group.  Read the full story ...(PDF)

Bioengineering Group Joins the List of 
New England's Best Workplaces for Commuters

Bioengineering Group has been added to the EPA’s New England office’s fifth annual list of New England’s Best Workplaces for Commuters. The list recognizes leading, innovative employers committed to improving their communities by reducing traffic congestion and air pollution and improving the health and quality of life for thousands of commuters in the region. In total, 153 employers representing 222,843 employees qualified for the list, which consists of large and small organizations throughout New England, and represents a wide array of industries including technology, healthcare, and transportation. “These companies and organizations are stepping up to the plate and demonstrating their commitment to improving air quality in our region through innovative commuter benefit programs,” said Robert Varney, regional administrator of EPA New England. “They are not only doing their part to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, but they are also gaining a competitive advantage by offering employees’ an important benefit which broadens their commuting options.”

Bioengineering Group Designed Facilities Named "Public Project of the Year"

The New England Regional Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America has designated the new Border Patrol Stations constructed in Jackman and Calais, ME as their “2007 Public Project of the Year” in the $10- $25 Million category. The Bioengineering Group, Inc. designed these two state-of-the-art facilities for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to support the current and future needs of the Border Patrol as they work to enhance the security of our borders. The International Erosion Control Association recognizes Wendi Goldsmith

The International Erosion Control Association has awarded Wendi Goldsmith, CPG, CPSSc, and President of The Bioengineering Group, the IECA's prestigious Environmental Achievement Award for Most Distinguished Technical Paper. She was recognized at the IECA's Environmental Excellence 2006 ceremony at the Long Beach Convention Center in February of 2006.
